The InnoRenew project consists of ten consortium partners. The Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia (ZVKDS) is one of the project partners and, as such, is upgrading its infrastructure and laboratory equipment with European funds from the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme and the European Regional Development Fund as well as co-financing from the Republic of Slovenia’s Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.
Recently, ZVKDS completed infrastructure investment and established a research laboratory for characterization and degradation studies of processed ligno-cellulosic materials from cultural heritage. At the end of November 2019, they opened an additional laboratory for characterization and treatment of archaeological materials in Ptuj, Slovenia, which will open new possibilities for scientific research of archaeological subjects.
Janez Kromar, acting director of ZVKDS, is convinced that Ptuj needs to become the archaeological centre of Slovenia since the archaeological collection at the Regional Museum Ptuj-Ormož is one of the most important in the country and of national importance. After 2022, the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS) project will start, which will enable purchasing of additional research equipment.
With funds from the InnoRenew project, ZVKDS upgraded and modernized their laboratory equipment in order to achieve even more successful, internationally competitive and sustainable research.
The nine other partners in the InnoRenew project are: University of Primorska, Fraunhofer WKI, Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, University of Maribor, Pulp and Paper Institute, Zavod eOblak, National Institute of Public Health, Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region and InnoRenew CoE.
